Essay on my favourite book in 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 words

My Favourite Book

I read always everything and everywhere. If you ask any of my friends about my hobby, everyone will tell you how much I like to read. For me there is no difference between novel, detective or historical books. There was a period when I read only psychological literature or some horror stories. But in general I like to read a lot. This love came to me because of my grandparents. They were reading fairytales for me when I was a child and now I read and share my opinion with them about the last books.

Speaking about different kind of literature I honestly prefer classical literature. There are some good books of modern literature as well. But normally I don’t feel desire to read it over again. Classical literature is completely different. Especially I like Russian classics. I read everything according my school program and sometimes I ask a teacher: what else can I read. They also know about my passion.

It’s difficult to say what is my favorite book, because many of them have changed my ideas, vision and opinion about some things. My favorite writers are Dostievskii, Gogol, Bulgakov, Turgenev, Nabokov, Chekhov, Bunin. I think their books I can read over and over again. The last book that impressed me a lot is “Master and Margharita” by Bulgakov. When I finished to read I was really sorry, that I hadn’t read it earlier. Somebody says that there is nothing special there, just another crazy story. But for me it is a very good example there is good and bad in our world. And unfortunately very often we can not make the right decision from the first time. We trust and love the wrong people but don’t pay attention on those who loves us. Maybe the story is little bit crazy, but I like it a lot.

Another book that I love so much is “The picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. It is a philosophical novel. I advised this book to all my friends. It’s a mystical story that happens to a young man. All his life he was attractive, charming, handsome and young. But he had a secret that could destroyed all this beautiful life. The moral for me is: we have to appreciate every moment and rely only on ourselves. Our life can finish very fast on the moment when we are happy.

ELEMENTS OF A BOOK REVIEW

As with any of the writing genres we teach our students, a book review can be helpfully explained in terms of criteria. While there is much to the ‘art’ of writing, there is also, thankfully, a lot of the nuts and bolts that can be listed too. Have students consider the following elements before writing:

●     Title: Often, the title of the book review will correspond to the title of the text itself, but there may also be some examination of the title’s relevance. How does it fit into the purpose of the work as a whole? Does it convey a message or reveal larger themes explored within the work?

●     Author: Within the book review, there may be some discussion of who the author is and what they have written before, especially if it relates to the current work being reviewed. There may be some mention of the author’s style and what they are best known for. If the author has received any awards or prizes, this may also be mentioned within the body of the review.

●     Genre: A book review will identify the genre that the book belongs to, whether fiction or nonfiction, poetry, romance, science-fiction, history etc. The genre will likely tie in, too with who the intended audience for the book is and what the overall purpose of the work is.

●     Book Jacket / Cover: Often, a book’s cover will contain artwork that is worthy of comment. It may contain interesting details related to the text that contribute to, or detract from, the work as a whole.

●     Structure: The book’s structure will often be heavily informed by its genre. Have students examine how the book is organized before writing their review. Does it contain a preface from a guest editor, for example? Is it written in sections or chapters? Does it have a table of contents, index, glossary etc.? While all these details may not make it into the review itself, looking at how the book is structured may reveal some interesting aspects.

●     Publisher and Price: A book review will usually contain details of who publishes the book and its cost. A review will often provide details of where the book is available too.

WHEN WRITING A BOOK REVIEW YOUR GOAL IS TO GO BEYOND SIMPLY SCRATCHING THE SURFACE AND MAKE A DEEP ANALYSIS OF A TEXT.

I enjoy reading. Reading is a significant part of our life. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. Every day I try to spend some time to read. One of my favourite books is the Twilight. The Twilight was written by the American writer Stephenie Meyer. At the beginning, like many others, I watched the movie Twilight, which was released on TV in 2008. The film made a big impression on me.

Bella Swan moves from Phoenix to the small town Forks that is located in the state of Washington. There she meets Edward Cullen and his family who have the unique abilities. The Cullen’s family looks very attractive. Twilight is a story about the relationship of Bella and Edward filled with unexpectable events. Bella will find out that Edward is not an ordinary person.

After watching the movie I decided to read the book right away. I liked the book much more than the movie. The book reveals the character of the heroes better, and the plot is described more colorfully. The Twilight is a fusion of fantasy and romance. The Twilight is a love story between Bella and Edward, a simple girl and a vampire.

Essay on My Favourite Book in 200 Words

The book is the best friend of humans. It never leaves us. It always helps us to get better by heart and knowledge. The best place to get the knowledge is a book. Because of encouragement from my teachers and my parents, I have been a huge book lover.

I love reading books. I have a big collection of books. I mostly love to read books based on science. It is my favorite topic. I have read lots of science fiction. My favorite book is ‘Frankenstein’ and it’s science fiction.

When I read this book for the first time, I was amazed and stunned. The writer Mary Shelley had an amazing imagination power. This book tells the story of a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, who created a hideous sapient creature by his unorthodox experiment.

(My favorite book)

I am completely keen on reading. I try to read every day at least a few pages. I like fantasy stories and some adventurous stories. And there is a story of that kind I am eager to read over and over again. Its name is “Harry Potter.”

The story was written by a popular British writer J. K. Rowling. And it tells us about a little boy Harry who lives in a family of his aunt. One day he finds out that he is a wizard and should go to study to a school of magic — Hogwarts. And that’s where the story begins.

In the following 7 parts we get to know what a great wizard Harry is. He meets new friends, studies, does sport and conquer the most evil magician in the world. These books teach how to be friendly, loyal and strong. They show us how to face difficulties and how important a family and friends are.

I love this book for all of this. I have already read it a few times. And I know that I will definitely read it once again.

Books

Books play a very important role in my life. I think that modern life is impossible without reading. The more I read, the more knowledge and experience I get. I can’t say that all books are useful. Some are boring and pointless.

I like both fiction and non-fiction books, but my favourite genre is detective stories. This includes Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot books. I started reading books when I was quite young, about 8 or 9 years old. My first books were fantasy stories and I really enjoyed them.

At the moment we have many books on school program and I get less time for reading my favourite ones. I can’t say that I don’t like classical literature. It is also quite good. I especially like Pushkin’s poems and Gogol’s short stories. Sometimes I also read various stories in English. If I see an unknown or new word, I check its meaning in a dictionary.

The last story I read was “A cup of tea” by Katherine Mansfield. The plot was really engaging and the style of writing too. I’d like to read more stories by this author.

There are many teenagers nowadays who don’t like reading. They prefer watching TV or playing computer games. In my opinion, they miss something important. Reading a good book awakes a lot of positive emotions. It is like travelling to another world.

Educational books are also useful. They help us to prepare for important exams or tests. Summing up, I should say every person should read books because they make us more intelligent and wise.

Writing

Introduction:

Give the title and author of the book, mention the type of the book. If you’re reviewing a film mention the type of film, the director and the actors.

Body:

Summarize the plot in a few sentences.

Mention the setting: the place and time of the plot.

Say something about the main characters.

Say something about the content.

Conclusion:

Comment on the book or film.

Let others know whether or not you liked the book/film.

Give your opinion about the acting of the actors, sound  track, special effects.

Is the author’s style good or bad, is the book / film interesting or boring etc.

Do you want to recommend the book/film?

What to include in your book review?

Thinking about what you want to say in your book review template can feel like a challenge. But it doesn’t have to be. As long as you have an idea of the content to include in your review, the words may start flowing easily. Here are some ideas of what your book review may contain:

  • General information
Talk about what kind of book is it – is it an adventure book, a fantasy book, a nonfiction book, a novel, and more. State if it is a standalone book or if it’s part of the series. You can even share interesting facts about the author of the book if you feel like this information can help your readers.
Here, you can also compare the book to others of the same genre or topic. Talk about the style of the book and the language the author used for it. You can even recommend the age groups the book is most recommended for.
  • Plot
Writing this part is the most challenging since you want to provide your readers with a taste of what the book is all about without divulging too many details or spoilers. When writing a book review for stories, never give away the ending!
  • Characters
Your review should provide good information about all the characters in the story. You can learn more about the characters by analyzing their dialogues, actions, and how they interact with the other characters in the story. When talking about the characters, you can share some examples of instances that stood out in your mind. But again, don’t give away too much.
  • Theme
Here, you talk about what the book is really about. Apart from the plot, you should also try to share the ideas behind the story that you’ve read. For instance, is the book about hope, love, friendship, the triumph of good over evil, and so on. This is another important piece of information that your readers may appreciate.
  • Setting
This refers to the place and time when the story happens. When including this information, don’t just share the location. You can even add descriptions to make this part more interesting to read.
  • Opinions and analyses
Finally, this is where you would share your reactions to the book. After giving the facts, it’s time to talk about how the book moved you, what you thought about it, and how you interpreted everything you’ve read. This would be the “meatiest” part of your book so you should spend more time on it. This also happens to be the main purpose of the book – your review – which is why it’s called a review!

There is a quote that I’d like to share with you, guys, ”A book is a dream that you hold in your hand”. – Neil Gaiman

Books are wonderful! They accompany us during all our life. When you read you enrich your mind and broaden your knowledge. People who read books are intelligent. Books are also an entertainment. You and the characters of the book you are reading can find yourselves in different countries and have a lot of adventures. Just imagine — new characters, scenes, lives, events! It’s like real life in miniature!

A book can be a faithful friend and a teacher. Reading a book you open new horizons for yourself. A book can form our values and characters. It gives us an opportunity to imagine the future and to look into the past. One can learn a lot by reading books. And I am sure that the time spent on a good book is never wasted. Too bad people started to read less. But it, of course, depends on the author greatly as well, on his or her talent.

Books are of great help in any education. With the help of the Internet, we can find and read online almost any book or literary piece on the Internet. And I find it quite convenient because it saves a lot of time. But I’m sure that no matter how convenient it is to get a book online, there is still no bigger pleasure than reading a printed one.

I’m fond of reading different genres like historical novels, detectives or science fiction, tales and legends. In my small library at home, I have some printed books which are important to me.

Books like Alice in Wonderland, Lord of the Rings, Life of Alexander the Great and others. I like to re-read them from time to time, sometimes I make some notes on their pages and just smell the scent of childhood and magic.

What Is a Book Review?

You may prosper, “what is a book review?”. Book reviews are commonly assigned students to allow them to show a clear understanding of the novel. And to check if the students have actually read the book. The essay format is highly important for your consideration, take a look at the book review format below.

Book reviews are assigned to allow students to present their own opinion regarding the author’s ideas included in the book or passage. They are a form of literary criticism that analyzes the author’s ideas, writing techniques, and quality. A book analysis is entirely opinion-based, in relevance to the book. They are good practice for those who wish to become editors, due to the fact, editing requires a lot of criticism.

EDIT AND REVISE YOUR BOOK REVIEW

c http-equiv=»Content-Type» content=»text/html;charset=UTF-8″>lass=»wp-block-image is-style-default»>

As with any writing genre, encourage students to polish things up with review and revision at the end. Encourage them to proofread and check for accurate spelling throughout, with particular attention to the author’s name, character names, publisher etc.

It is good practice too for students to double-check their use of evidence. Are statements supported? Are the statistics used correctly? Are the quotations from the text accurate? Mistakes such as these uncorrected can do great damage to the value of a book review as they can undermine the reader’s confidence in the writer’s judgement.

The discipline of writing book reviews offers students opportunities to develop their writing skills and exercise their critical faculties. Book reviews can be valuable standalone activities or serve as a part of a series of activities engaging with a central text. They can also serve as an effective springboard into later discussion work based on the ideas and issues explored in a particular book. Though the book review does not hold the sway it once did in the mind’s of the reading public, it still serves as an effective teaching tool in our classrooms today.

  • Action movies have a lot of exciting effects like car chases and gun fight. They usually involve ‘goodies’ and ‘baddies’, so war and crime are common subjects. Action movies usually need very little effort to watch, since the plot is normally simple.
  • Adventure movies usually involve a hero who sets out on a quest to save the world or loved ones.
  • Animated movies
  • Comedies are funny movies about people being silly or doing unusual things that make the audience laugh.
  • Documentaries are movies that are about real people and real events. They are nearly always serious and may involve strongly emotional subjects, for example cruelty.
  • Dramas are serious, and often about people falling in love or needing to make a big decision in their life. They tell stories about relationships between people.
  • Tragedies are always dramas, and are about people in trouble. For example, a husband and wife who are divorcing must each try to prove to a court of law that they are the best person to take care of their child. Emotion (feelings) are a big part of the movie and the audience (people watching the movie) may get upset and even cry.
  • Family movies are made to be good for the entire family. They are mainly made for children but often entertaining for adults as well. Disney is famous for their family movies.
  • Horror movies use fear to excite the audience. Music, lighting and sets (man-made places in movie studios where the movie is made) are all designed to add to the feeling.
  • Romantic Comedies (Rom-Coms) are usually love stories about 2 people from different worlds, who must overcome obstacles to be together. Rom-Coms are always light-hearted, but may include some emotion.
  • Science fiction (sci-fi) movies are set in the future or in outer space. Some use their future or alien settings to ask questions about the meaning of life or how we should think about life. Science fiction movies often use special effects to create images of alien worlds, outer space, alien creatures, and spaceships.
  • Thrillersare usually about a mystery, strange event, or crime that needs to be solved. The audience is kept guessing until the final minutes, when there are usually ‘twists’ in the plot (surprises).
  • Western movies tell stories about cowboys in the western United States in the 1800s. They are usually really action movies, but with historical costume. They may or may not involve Indians (Native Americans).
  • Fantasy movies include magical and impossible things that any real human being cannot do.

Star Wars

One of my favourite films is one of the Star Wars series. I’ve got the video. It’s an exciting science fiction film and it’s called The Phantom Menace. It’s the first part of a trilogy about a boy called Anakin Skywalker.

In this film Anakin is nine years old and he lives with his mother on planet Tatsin. Strange-looking creatures rule this planet and Anakin and all the other human beings are slaves. Anakin’s dream is to become one of the Jedi knights, the brave guardians of the galaxy, and free his people. One day two Jedi knights land on Tatsin and Anakin thinks his dream might finally come true.

I enjoy watching this film because it’s never boring. The story is full of surprises and suspense. And the action never stops. There are spaceship races, battles with robots and really exciting fight scenes with the Jedi knights. I like those the best. Also, the space scenes and the different creatures on the planets are amazing and they look so real.

You must go and see this film or get the video. You may not like science fiction but this film is special. The story is exciting and the scenery and acting is brilliant. And it’s not just a film for children. All the family should see it. I can’t wait to see the next two films in the trilogy.
